Walk-and-Talk Therapy: Research has shown that the experiences of sensations from non-threatening nature environments can promote automatic relaxation of the nervous system and restoration of cognitive resources. This is an opportunity to experience the powerful combination of talk therapy and physical exercise through bi-lateral movements. Studies show that a consistent regime of physical exercise (along with a more mindful diet) can be JUST AS, if not MORE effective for treating depression than anti-depressants?
Physiologically, movement allows for increased serotonin in the brain as well as a release of toxins through blood/oxygen, circulation, and sweat, and releases natural endorphins which actually ARE nature's anti-depressant! Nature based sessions are also beneficial for the whole mind-body-soul system. In our current day and age, due to our ever-mounting responsibilities, extended work hours, blurred lines between work and home life, limited leisure, and an abundance of gratifying technology at our fingertips, we have become distracted from the fact that our systems long for fresh air and time spent in nature. Honoring the connection to the natural world, as humans were meant to experience, allows for clarity of mind and healing of the spirit.
While some nature-based mindfulness sessions and MBSR classes are open to anyone, specific experiential sessions such as Walk-and-Talk are reserved only for current clients who have completed a minimum number of sessions. The reason being, these sessions are uniquely curated and specifically prescribed to help deepen and refine the work that we do in talk therapy.
